RECIPE Contest

Pasta Specialties

SPAGHETTI and meatballs, fettuccine Alfredo, linguine with clam sauce… they’re just a few of the classic pasta dishes we all enjoy.

They’re satisfying, uncomplicated and oh, so good—reasons enough to choose “Pasta Pleasers” as the topic for our next Cooking for 2 recipe contest.

If you’ve downsized a family favorite or created your own delicious pasta creation for two, you’ll want to enter this contest. You could win one of the great prizes shown below left.

So check your recipe files for your best pasta dish, whether it’s an authentic ethnic concoction or an all-American picnic dish.

Any recipe that features pasta in one of its many shapes, sizes and flavors is eligible for this contest. See the categories below.

Entrees.

With so many varieties of pasta on the market these days, the possibilities seem endless.

We’ll consider your best stuffed manicotti, layered lasagna, baked mostaccioli, toasted ravioli, traditional spaghetti and more. Share a skillet supper, casserole or other hearty main dish that features pasta…from angel hair and macaroni to penne and ziti.

Salads.

We’re looking for cold and creamy salads that blend pasta with veggies, meats, beans and more. Don’t forget salads tossed with light, flavorful vinaigrettes, too.

Soups.

Have an outstanding minestrone or hearty chili mac? Share your best pasta soup recipes.

Side Dishes.

While macaroni and cheese is an all-time favorite, there are so many other ways to dress up pasta on the side with sauces, vegetables, herbs and spices.

Sauces.

Submit your best marinara, alfredo, pesto or spaghetti sauce recipes for our judges to sample.

The deadline for entries is January 5, 2006. The top eight winners will be featured in the Fall 2006 issue. For complete contest rules, see the link below.

Contest Prizes

In each contest, we’ll select three top winners, plus five runners-up. The winner whose recipe is judged “best of the best” and takes our Grand Prize will receive $500.00 in cash!

Our second-place winner will cash in, too. The cook whose recipe takes the No. 2 spot will receive $250.00.

For third place, we’ll award a prize that would thrill any cook—a Euro-Pro Convection Toaster Oven valued at $89.99. With its extra-deep dimensions, this countertop oven is big enough to bake pies, broil a whole chicken, or even cook a pizza (a pizza stone is included). But you’ll save on energy…and won’t heat up the whole kitchen when you use it.

In addition, we’ll award prizes to five runners-up. Each of these creative cooks will receive Taste of Home’s Quick-Fry Electric Skillet, valued at $24.99. At 7 inches, this handy appliance is sized just right for preparing meals for one or two.
