tipSweeter Smell
My husband loves pork and sauerkraut made in a slow cooker, but I don’t like the smell of sauerkraut. So when I make this dish for him, I drain all the liquid from the sauerkraut and add apple juice. Sometimes I add cut-up apples as well. It helps the aroma for me, and he enjoys the added flavor. —Jamie Johnston, Apollo, Pennsylvania
tipFruit Afloat
To keep raisins, currants and other dried fruit from falling to the bottom of a cake, use a small amount of the flour called for in the recipe to coat them before adding to the batter. —Milton Broadwell, Weatherford, Texas
tipWell-Seasoned Salad
I made the Macaroni Salad in your Fall ’07 issue, but I added some lemon-pepper seasoning and shrimp. It turned out very good and works well with tuna, too.

tipCookie Cups
For a yummy dessert, I buy refrigerated cookie dough (chocolate chip is great) and slice off several 1-inch sections. I push each section into a greased cupcake tin, keeping the center open so it looks like a nest. Then I bake as directed. While the cookies are still warm, I mix peanut butter with some powdered sugar and fill the centers of the warm cookies. You’ll love ’em! —Pam Hagwood, Centerville, Ohio
